Waystation Workshop - Policy, Practice, Protocol: Designing Ethical Restitution Frameworks for Collecting Institutions

This Waystation Workshop focuses on the development, refinement, and implementation of protocols for the restitution of international tangible cultural heritage. Centered on the practical work of creating institutional policies/best practices that support the return of cultural materials across national borders, the workshop features speakers with direct experience contributing to finalized and formally adopted protocols as well as speakers who are actively working toward them.

In addition to examining restitution-specific frameworks, the workshop will address pragmatic institutional considerations—such as strategies for working with boards and risk management offices; navigating internal differences of opinion and governance structures; forming effective workgroups; and determining when to create new policies versus updating existing ones.
